A car and a truck wrecked and overturned on I-24 Thursday afternoon around 12.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 39-year old Shawn Bailey from Woodbury was driving his pick-up truck in the west bound lane headed towards Nashville, while 27-year old Shayne Howse of Davidson County was traveling in the same direction. Howse told Troopers he looked down at his GPS and noticed he needed to exit and Bailey, who was behind Howse, glanced in his side view mirror to change lanes and go around Howse. When Bailey re-directed his attention Howse slowed to a stop.

The crash report shows that Bailey tried to swerve in an attempt to miss hitting the Oldsmobile that Howse was operating, but instead slammed into the rear of the car. Both vehicles went into the median of the interstate and flipped several times, according to witnesses. Those same witnesses confirmed that Howse not only slowed down on the interstate, but completely stopped.

Bailey was transported to the Stonecrest Hospital in Smyrna with non-life threatening injuries. Howse escaped uninjured. Both men were wearing their seatbelts which likely played a key role in saving their lives.

Signs of drug or alcohol use were not present for either of the two drivers.
