Two Year Old Found Walking Down Murfreesboro Street at 11PM, Mother Arrested

Police are investigating why two year old child was found wandering down a Murfreesboro street at 11:00 at night earlier this week. The incident was reported on Tuesday (8/13/13) and an arrest took place the following day.

When police located the two year old on South Rutherford Boulevard they went from door to door in search of a parent. When police turned up empty handed, the child was placed in the custody of the Department of Children Services. The following day at 7 in the morning, Shakari Williams called the police department to report that her two year old was missing.

Police went to the South Rutherford Boulevard apartment of the 22-year old mother and she told detectives she placed the child in bed at 10pm on Tuesday night. At 5am the following morning, the mother said she noticed her child was gone. Two hours later she called the authorities. Police noted that they knocked on the door of the mothers apartment Tuesday night when searching for a parent of the lost child.

Williams was charged with “Reckless Endangerment.” She will appear in court on September 12th.

39-13-103.  Reckless endangerment. 

  (a) A person commits an offense who recklessly engages in conduct that places or may place another person in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury.

(b)  (1) Reckless endangerment is a Class A misdemeanor;

   (2) Reckless endangerment committed with a deadly weapon is a Class E felony;

   (3) Reckless endangerment by discharging a firearm into a habitation, as defined under § 39-14-401, is a Class C felony, unless the habitation was unoccupied at the time of the offense, in which event it is a Class D felony;

   (4) In addition to the penalty authorized by this subsection (b), the court shall assess a fine of fifty dollars ($50.00) to be collected as provided in § 55-10-451 and distributed as provided in § 55-10-452.
