The League of Women Voters of Murfreesboro/Rutherford County is inviting the public to a presentation and question and answer session regarding the constitutional amendment process Tuesday evening, September 8, at the Heritage Center, 225 W. College Street. Social time and refreshments begin at 6:00 PM and the program begins at 6:30.

The program will focus on the methods, history, advantages, and possible pitfalls of the amendment process. Dr. John Vile, dean of the Honors College and professor of political science at MTSU, will speak. A noted scholar on the amendment process, Vile has written and edited numerous books, essays, chapters, and reviews on this and related topics. In support of the League's current study of money in politics, he will also offer perspective on how recent Supreme Court rulings such as the Citizens United case inform the issue of political campaigns as protected speech under the First Amendment.
