UPDATE: Bridge over Broad Project Progressing

With longer days and improved weather, progress has increased significantly construction project at the intersection of Broad Street, Memorial Boulevard and Old Fort Parkway. Also known as the Bridge Over Broad. Tennessee Department of Transportation officials say as utility relocation nears completion, contract crews are moving forward with other work.

Bell & Associates is currently working on retaining walls for the southwest ramp, which runs along the south side of State Route 96 between the CSX overpass and the Broad Street intersection. Foundations and footings for the walls are underway, with work on the vertical portion expected soon.

Last month, traffic was shifted on Highway 96 to allow for construction of retaining walls for the southeast ramp, which runs along the south side of the highway between the Rutherford County Maintenance facility and the Broad Street intersection. Pavement and curb have been removed from this area. Excavation for placement of the walls is e expected to begin by the end of this month.

Road widening work will be coordinated with retaining wall construction along the east side of Broad Street and the south side of Highway 96.

All utility contractors are finalizing utility work, including paving and patching of trenches and general clean up.

As always, especially as activity increases, motorists are urged to use caution, reduce speed, and be alert to changing road conditions in the construction zone.
