After several cold, wet months, it's time to get back on track. Work continues at the intersections of Broad Street (SR 1) and Memorial Boulevard/ Old Fort Parkway (SR 10/ SR 96). The next few months will finally bring an end to utility relocation, allowing the project to move forward. As the work becomes more visual, motorists are advised to be extra cautious in the work zone, especially during scheduled city events when traffic may be more congested.

Construction at the intersection of Broad Street (SR 1) and Memorial Boulevard /Old Fort Parkway (SR 10/SR 96) began in January 2014. The $17.6 million project will separate the intersection by creating a single point urban interchange. This separation calls for a new bridge on Memorial Blvd. that will create an overpass over Broad Street. There are also plans for enhanced lighting, landscaping and aesthetic treatment of the retaining walls. Other improvements to State Route 1 and 96 will include sidewalks and curb and gutter.

The Average Daily Traffic (ADT) on Broad Street is 31,420. This means that nearly 60,000 vehicles pass through this entire intersection every day. By 2034, the ADT is projected to be 72,740.

Construction is estimated to be completed in May 2016.
