Dan Whittle photo exhibit at Arts Center of Cannon County
May 25-June 30, 2012 Dan Whittle's photo art is on display at the Arts Center of Cannon County (1424 John Bragg Highway in neighboring Woodbury). Admission is free to the Marly Berger Gallery. This well known journalist-photographer-author has creative nature photos and captures life in action through the lens of his camera. Middle Half Marathon
Sat. (Oct. 13, 2012) 7AM 6th Annual Middle Half Marathon and Murph's Fun Run. The 13.1-mile course starts and stops at MTSU's Dean Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium and the course is around the beautiful flat and tree-lined Murfreesboro historic district. The Murfreesboro Half Marathon course has been certified as accurate in measurement according to the standards adopted by the USATF Road Running Technical Council. Nikki Giovanni: "Life in the Bottoms"
Tue (May 29, 2012) 5:30PM Renowned social activist and poet Nikki Giovanni will speak at New Vision Baptist Church (1750 N. Thompson Lane). "Life In The Bottoms" is the final part of MTSU's 2012 local history series. The evening begins with a barbecue dinner at 5:30PM. Then at 6:30PM oral history reports from the field school will be presented. UPDATE: Hobgood Elementary to Expand

Plans for Hobgood Elementary School to expand will have to go before the Board of Zoning. The Murfreesboro City operated school wants to expand by 5,347-square feet to build two new classrooms and to convert an existing media room into two classrooms for a total of four new classrooms. The school is currently 52-thousand square feet in size and with the expansion will be just over 57-thousand square feet. The school sits on more than enough property for the expansion to happen, the school is on a 20-acre plot of land and the expansion will occur on the north side of the building. Hobgood was built in 1954 and has seen few changes since that time.
