UPDATE on Monday fatal accident on I-24 in LaVergne

The name of the woman killed in a Monday afternoon accident on I-24 in LaVergne has been released. 23-year old Dimitra Byrd of Murfreesboro was driving her Toyota Camry when she stopped in one of the West Bound lanes for unknown reasons. Another motorist driving a semi-truck in the same lane collided with Byrd, killing her in the collision.

A 22-year old passenger in the car with Byrd was injured. Karie McAllister was last listed in Critical Condition at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. The driver of the large Freightliner truck that struck Byrd was not hurt in the crash.

We were told that a man operating a motorcycle had to swerve to miss debris that was on I-24 as a result of the accident. When 25-year old Benjamin Menes of LaVergne attempted to avoid the debris, he too wrecked. Menes was transported to the hospital, but his condition has not been released.
