The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says that 53-year-old Jeffrey Darren Hosea was apparently holding his son at gunpoint.

According to reports, officers said they witnessed Hosea committing this act, and when they entered the camper, Hosea then pointed the weapon at an officer.

TBI officials said that an officer opened fire, killing Hosea.

The Shelbyville Times Gazette reported:

Hosea was allegedly holding his teenage son against his will shortly after 10 p.m. at a travel trailer in a park behind the Department of Children's Services office off Madison Street on East Lane, police said.

"An officer made contact with the complainant, who was parked a short distance away, and began to talk with the juvenile on the phone," Phillips said. "The juvenile advised the officer that his father had been pointing the weapon at him and some animals inside the residence."

Police approached the residence and were able to see inside through a window, Phillips said.
