The Murfreesboro Police Department has released a photo of the suspect involved in the Electric Department scam. In March, the suspect made his way into a home after telling an elderly resident that he worked for the electric department. Once inside the victim says that the man attacked him and tied him up, prior to rummaging through his house. Recently, a possible suspect was captured on an in-store surveillance video camera making a purchase with the elderly victim’s credit card. The suspect was seen with an unknown woman (photo above).

Sgt. Kyle Evans with the MPD told us that if you recognize the culprit in the picture posted on WGNSradio.com, please call Det. Sgt. Mike Taylor at 893-2717 or CrimeStoppers at 893-STOP(7867).

WGNS talked to Amy Byers with Murfreesboro Electric and asked her if an electric department employee would ever need to come in to a customer’s home?

The victim was told by the thug that he needed to check his home because of a recent power outage. After the culprit entered the house he acted as if he needed to look at an electrical outlet behind a refrigerator. He then attacked the homeowner and stole his wallet and fled the scene. Police canvassed the area, but turned up empty handed. The victim did not suffer any serious injury in the attack, but did receive a small cut above his eye.

Past information previously reported:

The victim told officers that the unknown subject approached his door and said, “He needed to come in and check something due to a power outage.” The 72-year old homeowner who lives on Meadowgreen Drive allowed the man inside his home. After the culprit entered he made his way to the kitchen where he looked behind the refrigerator. Seconds later the man produced a bungee cord and told the elderly victim to place his hands behind his back. The victim quickly moved to an aggressive stance and attempted to fight off the thug. In describing what happened to the victim next the officer who filed the report wrote, “The subject bashed his head into the floor causing a gash over his right eye.”

After the struggle the unknown man who was said to be wearing red gloves, tied the victim up and then rummaged through his home. The last line of the police incident report states that the subject threatened to shoot the victim in order to gain cash. Luckily, a shooting never happened and the victim was not seriously injured. The culprit got away with only the victims’ wallet. After the unknown man left, the victim was able to free himself and call for help.

Officers searched the area, but turned up empty handed. In fact, as of Friday at midnight, the subject has not been caught.
