Dan Whittle photo exhibit at Arts Center of Cannon County
May 25-June 30, 2012 Dan Whittle's photo art is on display at the Arts Center of Cannon County (1424 John Bragg Highway in neighboring Woodbury). Admission is free to the Marly Berger Gallery. This well known journalist-photographer-author has creative nature photos and captures life in action through the lens of his camera. Middle Half Marathon
Sat. (Oct. 13, 2012) 7AM 6th Annual Middle Half Marathon and Murph's Fun Run. The 13.1-mile course starts and stops at MTSU's Dean Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium and the course is around the beautiful flat and tree-lined Murfreesboro historic district. The Murfreesboro Half Marathon course has been certified as accurate in measurement according to the standards adopted by the USATF Road Running Technical Council. Nikki Giovanni: "Life in the Bottoms"
Tue (May 29, 2012) 5:30PM Renowned social activist and poet Nikki Giovanni will speak at New Vision Baptist Church (1750 N. Thompson Lane). "Life In The Bottoms" is the final part of MTSU's 2012 local history series. The evening begins with a barbecue dinner at 5:30PM. Then at 6:30PM oral history reports from the field school will be presented. UPDATE: Shooting at Cason Lane Academy

The Murfreesboro Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred around 5:10 p.m. February 20, 2012 near the basketball courts at Cason Lane Academy. Detectives interviewed and arrested five juveniles and one adult in connection with the case. There were two shooters involved, both are juveniles, and are charged with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Weapon on School Property. The three other juveniles and one adult (Travis Stanley, age 19) were arrested and charged with Conspiracy.

The police report shows that the 14-year old victim was shot in the leg after an argument that occurred at the basketball courts behind Cason Lane Academy. The victim was transported to Middle Tennessee Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The teenagers involved in the shooting do not attend Cason Lane Academy.
