FRIDAY, 9-4-15 UPDATE:

The family of a Siegel Middle School football player who suffered a head injury during a game says they're taking it day by day. Caleb Victory is still at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.

His mother, JoJo Victory, says he's been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury or TBI...

Doctors have told the family his recovery will depend on how fast his brain heals.

Victory says her son's never had any symptoms and the play Caleb was injured on was nothing he hasn't done hundreds of times before...

JoJo Victory says Caleb loves football and despite the seriousness of his injury, she says they all understood the risks associated with playing football or any sport, for that matter...

Rutherford County, and the Siegel community in particular, has had an emotional week, with the death of Mason Loupe and Caleb's football injury. Victory says they've all felt and appreciate the thoughts, prayers and support...

His mother says Caleb received a special visitor on Thursday, which wasn't one of his best days. Melanie Loupe, the mother of Mason Loupe who just passed away on Wednesday, visited him in the hospital.

Friday (September 4th), Caleb celebrated his birthday. The eighth grader will remain in the hospital while going through physical therapy.
