The trial for the attempted murder of Joel Andrew Holmes from La Vergne begins this week in a Nashville courtroom. Holmes was shot in the head, assassination style, while dropping off his children at their mother's apartment on August 24, 2011. The incident occurred in the parking lot of Summit Apartments in Antioch. Metro Police feel that the 28-year old man was a specific target in the incident.

After an investigation into the attempted murder of Holmes, Metro Nashville Police arrested Katherine Holmes and Barry Haislip, Jr. They were charged with attempted murder after the shooting of Joel Holmes. Reports indicate that Katherine and her two children were in the parking lot when Holmes was shot.
