Spring officially arrives Saturday, March 19th. Welcome the new season with a special event at Barfield Crescent Park, 697 Veterans Parkway. The fun begins at 2:00 o'clock that afternoon with a program in the Wilderness Station.

Murfreesboro Parks & Recreation's Rachel Singer told WGNS, "You'll learn about sustainable chocolate practices and how important it is for our migratory birds."

The event includes a naturalist-led hike on Barfield Crescent Park's back-country trails.

Singer notes, "You'll discover several Tennessee birds that need good habitat in Central America so they can return to us."

Last on the agenda is a warm fire where hot chocolate and all the chocolaty treats you can handle will be waiting. Partake in a game to see if you will survive as a migratory bird. Warm up and refuel - just like our bird friends - before hiking back to the Wilderness Station on the paved trails. The hike will be 2 ½ miles total.

The fee for the program is $3.00 and is for ages 8 and up. Reservations are required. For more information, contact Rachel Singer at the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department, phone 615-217-3017, or e-mail rsinger@murfreesborotn.gov.
