VA to Open Tennessee’s First Fisher House

The Fisher House Foundation will dedicate the Tennessee Fisher House Thursday, November 7 at the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (VA TVHS) Alvin C. York Campus located in Murfreesboro during a dedication ceremony. WGNS' Truman Jones and Bryan Barrett will broadcast their morning programs between 9 and 11 next Thursday from the dedication.

Fisher House Foundation is best known for the network of comfort homes built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers in the US and in Europe. Fisher Houses are homes that enable family members of a Veteran to be close during the hospitalization for a combat injury, illness or disease.

The Tennessee Fisher House is the first in the state of Tennessee.

The event is hosted by VA TVHS and will include the following guest speakers:

Congressman Scott Desjarlais (TN-4); Mr. John Patrick, Veteran Integrated Service Network (VISN) 9 Director; Mr. Juan A. Morales, VA Health System Director; Mr. David Coker, Fisher House Foundation President, Mrs. Margaret Britton Vaughn, Tennessee Poet Laureate.

VA TVHS Public Affairs and the Fisher House Foundation will host the event and encourages media to attend. Live broadcast opportunities are available to media outlets for local morning shows. This will include a tour of the Fisher House for broadcast prior to the ribbon cutting.
