Volunteer State veterans feel effects of the government shutdown. WGNS' Jeff White with details...
VERBATIM: Amid all the gridlock in Washington, Tennesseans who have fought for our country are feeling the pain. The Department of Veterans Affairs is running out of funding and many of its services and support programs are coming to a halt.
That will affect about three-point-eight million veterans who receive disability compensation. If the government shutdown continues into late October, over 315-thousand veterans and 202-thousand surviving spouses and dependents will see pension payments stopped. That accounts for more than six-billion in payments that would be halted with an extended shutdown.
