WGNS' Listener Asked Mayor About Traffic Signal

On the WGNS' Action Line, a listener asked Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland about placing a traffic signal at the intersection of the Old Lascassas Pike and Rutherford Boulevard. That's beside Belle-Aire Baptist Church and near the Kroger Shopping Center.

The mayor always follows through to get answers for residents, and he directed this to City Manager Rob Lyons.

Lyons said, "We have not done a study of the intersection recently. As part of the Kroger traffic impact study several years back, this intersection was studied and determined that signal warrants will not be met at this location."

The city manager noted, "The intersection was designed with no connectivity to the Kroger Shopping Center to keep the traffic volumes manageable. Also, it was determined that the intersection was too close to the traffic signal at Rutherford Blvd and Lascassas Pike (SR96). It does not meet our minimum 1,300 feet separation for proper signal progression and operation. I will take a look at the intersection during peak times to see if a study is warranted."

NewsRadio WGNS will let you know the results of Lyon's check of peak time traffic at Old Lascassas Pike and Rutherford Boulevard.
