WHAT? $500 in Quarters Stolen from Gas Station in Murfreesboro?

A man in his late 40’s or early 50’s stole $500 in quarters from Mapco Express on South Church Street at Middle Tennessee Boulevard in Murfreesboro. The theft occurred around 7, Tuesday morning.

The subject entered the store and asked for two cartons of Newport cigarettes. The culprit, looking for an opportunity, saw a bank box sitting on the counter. When the worker in the store turned her back to reach for the cigarettes, the man grabbed the box and ran.

A police report shows the man jumped into a black four door Honda with dark tinted windows. He then backed onto South Church Street so his license plate could not be seen. A witness ran after the car on foot, but could not get close enough to read the plate.

Detectives have since obtained security video footage from inside the store in hopes of recognizing the thief. So far, an arrest has not been made.
