Con-artist acting as if they were IRS agents scammed a local woman out of more than $1900. The 59-year old Murfreesboro woman called the police when she realized that she had been taken.

The unknown caller told the victim that they with the IRS and that she would be arrested if she did not pay what she believed was due. After the victim was scammed, she went to the police department because she discovered the man who called her was using the phone number of the Murfreesboro Police Department. In other words, the scammer spoofed the phone number of the police station.

As the victim was telling police about the incident, the subject called back. This time, a police officer spoke to the man who was described to have a heavy Middle Eastern accent. The officer advised the caller that the victim knows that this is a scam and not to call back.

No arrest was made as it is not known who made the calls.
