The “Pray for Sadie Benefit” on Sunday afternoon in front of the Beehive Hair Salon was a huge success for the family of Sadie Layne Smith. Sadie is only 11 months old and has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Neuroblastoma cancer. The Murfreesboro toddler is currently undergoing chemotherapy at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. The small, but upbeat child is the daughter of Meghan and Jacob Smith who live in Murfreesboro. Her parents were overwhelmingly thankful for the support showed by the community this past weekend.
Tracy Tucker, owner of the Beehive Hair Salon and organizer of the event told WGNS on Sunday evening…
About four hours after we recorded that interview, Tucker called us and said they were still counting the donations and they were up to $20,000. That number will grow even higher over the next few days. The community came together to help the Smith family in a major way on Sunday. The drummer for the band Tesla even showed up to offer his support for the Smith’s. Meghan, the mother of Sadie, quietly stated to one of the many volunteers with a laugh that God even sent the drummer from Tesla to the Beehive.
Performers during the benefit included well known Christian artist Russ Lee. Newcomer Penny Rae and Stop Motion Radio were also on hand to offer their support.
