Looking for something Halloweenish to do during the days leading up to that night you go trick or treating? Then make plans to take a trip to the Old Scream Road/Haunted Hay Ride at Barfield Crescent Park. And if you are bit squeamish, take in the Not So Haunted Hayride or enjoy yourself at the Spooking Night Carnival.
Sponsored by the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department, the 12th annual event, called the Barfield Bash, is four nights of fun at the park located on Veterans Parkway.
The Haunted Hayride along Old Scream Road is the main attraction of the four day event. The idea for the scary venture originated when there was a need to build an access road for the disc golf course located at the park.
"While there was very little funding, we were able to combine the two projects and get both programs funded," said Thomas Laird, Athletic Superintendent for Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Dept.
"The city was already doing a Halloween event at Cannonsburgh but it conflicted with Harvest Days. With the help of several creative minds, the Barfield Bash was created. We moved the Halloween events to the park, which gave us more room for the carnival, Not So Haunted Hayride along with the "Old Scream Road." It takes several days of work for the Parks and Rec. Department to construct and set up the trail.
"The Not So Haunted Hayride is for the small children, and by doing so we feel that we can make the haunted trail as scary as possible," added Laird. "The volunteer actors give it all they have to make it the most frightening experience possible."
The Haunted Hay ride runs Wednesday thru Saturday starting at dark and ending at 9 p.m. with a cost of $5.00 a person. The Not So Haunted Hay ride is Friday and Saturday night with a cost of $3.00 a person. And the Spooky Carnival is also on Friday and Saturday night with plenty of games and contest for all ages beginning at 5 p.m.
"We have a lot to offer the community with the Barfield Bash," said Laird. "It is a very inexpensive fun time for the entire family from the kids to the adults. It will be a great event and we will look forward to seeing you there."
