UPDATE: Rutherford County Commissioner Matthew Young in More Hot Water - This Time in Nashville

Nov 14, 2013 at 10:02 am by bryan

Matthew Young, a Rutherford County Commissioner who was recently indicted by a November Rutherford County Grand Jury, is now facing charges in Davidson County. WGNS' Dan Eidem has more:

Commissioner Young was arrested by Rutherford County Sheriff Deputies and transported to a Nashville Police Unit where he was taken to Davidson County and charged with two counts of felony theft for his alleged involvement in a concert ticket scheme. An indictment out of Davidson County suggested that Young sold thousands of dollars’ worth of fake concert tickets totaling more than $60,000.

Also indicted in Nashville were 43-year old Kenneth Cooper and 66-year old Harvey Felsher of Mississippi. Ironically, Cooper is the man who claimed that Young, Felsher and Arthur “Bubba” Hutson assaulted him over a Justin Bieber ticket scheme gone awry. Hutson was not listed on the indictment in Davidson County, only Rutherford County.

Actual Release from the Metro Nashville Police Department - Below:

Rutherford County Commissioner Matthew Young is in Metro police custody on a grand jury indictment charging him with two counts of felony theft for his alleged involvement in a bogus concert ticket conspiracy involving tens of thousands of dollars.

Young, 31, who is a firefighter in Murfreesboro, was arrested this evening at a fire hall by Rutherford County authorities acting at the request of Nashville Fraud detectives.  He was then transported to the county line, where Metro police assumed custody of him.

Young is accused of taking part in a scheme in which at least three victims were promised concert and event tickets in exchange for large sums of money.  Investigation by Fraud Detective Anita Prather showed that the three victims paid a total of more than $65,000 in anticipation of tickets, but never received anything in return.

Also indicted are Kenneth Cooper, 43, who is presently incarcerated in Kentucky, and Harvey Felsher, 66, of Biloxi, Mississippi.  Felsher is not in custody at present.

Young’s bond is set at $50,000.

Previous Report on WGNS:

Three men, including a Rutherford County Commissioner, turned themselves in on Thursday to multiple charges after an indictment was handed down by a November Grand Jury. This news in after the three were accused of assaulting an alleged business associate.

County Commissioner Matthew Young, Murfreesboro businessman Arthur “Bubba” Hutson and Mississippi resident Harvey Felsher are charged in indictments returned by the Rutherford County Grand Jury with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault and extortion. Young and Hutson are also charged with simple domestic assault.

All three men turned themselves into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center around 10:45 Thursday morning for booking and were release on a 100-thousand dollars bond about 30-minutes later.

The indictments stem from an alleged incident suggesting the men supposedly assaulted Kenneth Cooper of Nashville in July of 2012 after he reportedly sold them counterfeit tickets to a Justin Bieber concert at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. The reported assault was said to have taken place in the home of Hutson on East Main Street in Murfreesboro. After the incident, Commissioner Young evidently called Sheriff Robert Arnold. What was said during that conversation has not fully been released. News Channel 5 in Nashville reported that the trio transported Cooper to the Sheriff’s Office after the incident, but no charges of wrongdoing were filed.

The courts confirmed with WGNS that the charges are as follows

We spoke to Murfreesboro Police Sgt. Kyle Evans about the allegations from 2012 and requested a copy of the police report that would have been filed after the incident was reported, due to the fact that the alleged crime occurred in the city. Sgt. Evans stated in an email, “There is no report to release. I can't discuss the case other than to say we are investigating an assault.”
