Persons in the Riverbend area and along Thompson Lane near the river were concerned Thursday with the heavy smoke in the air. Stones River Battleground's Chief of Operations Gib Backlund told WGNS News that they are continuing the prescribed burns . . .
Backlund noted that the wind, temperature, humidity--everything has to be within a certain range, before a prescribed burn can take place. The U.S. National Park Service attempts to do a burn of a field every five-years.
