A brake light violation and a traffic stop on Pitts Lane led to the arrest of a Knoxville man in Murfreesboro. Police say after the stop was made 19-year old Christopher D. Bassett, Jr. got out of the car and tried to run leaving his two passengers behind. The idea of running almost ended when the responding officer knocked the culprit to the ground with one swing of the hand. Officer Jacob Fountain reported that the ground did not prevent Bassett from getting back up and once again taking off on foot. Bassett was caught when multiple officers showed up and gave chase.
Passenger Kipling Colbert stayed in the car, but passenger Jairon Bowen was seen on foot and a witness told Officer Fountain they saw Bowen hide something under a bush. Police checked the shrubbery and found two bags of marijuana and a set of digital scales. A third bag of Mary Jane was located in the car. Bowen admitted ownership of one bag of weed and the scales, but that was all he fessed up to. As a result, all three face drug possession charges.
Arrested were Jairon Bowen, Kipling Colbert and Christopher Bassett, all 19-years of age. Each face multiple charges.
A cell phone, iPad and a small amount of white pills were also seized in the stop after all three were placed in handcuffs.
