TennCare is helping put out cigarette use by its enrollees. The state's health care plan is now paying for anti-smoking products including nicotine patches, gum, and prescription pills.

TennCare has set aside $3.5 million, and the federal government matches that money making a total of $10.5 million to help Tennesseans stop smoking this year. State leaders hope the investment in smoking cessation translates into long-term health benefits for TennCare patients. In the past, TennCare only footed the bill for pregnant women and people under 21.
