A local substitute teacher in Murfreesboro has been arrested for failing to report child sex abuse, according to a police report WGNS obtained on Monday.
37-Year old Virginia L. McCord was apprehended after the Department of Children Services referred a case to the police department. Apparently a 13-year old child spent the night in the McCord home, which is where the said abuse took place.
Craig McCord, the husband of Virginia McCord, allegedly woke the sleeping child by touching her between the legs. The teen victim quickly called her grandfather to pick her up after the incident was said to have occurred. Detective Tommy Roberts wrote in a report that the child was not related to the McCord's, but spending the night in their home. Prior to the victim making the phone call, she told Virginia McCord about the allegations.
The police report shows that when the child was interviewed by authorities, "She made credible and compelling disclosures." The report went on to state, "Our investigation showed that Craig McCord did commit sexual battery by an authority figure. Investigation also showed that Craig McCord is a registered sex offender and violated the conditions set forth on the sex offender registry."
As a result, Virginia McCord was charged with "Failure to report child sex abuse." Craig McCord was charged with "Sexual battery by an authority figure and violation of the sex offender registry." The duo will be in court on August 17, 2015.
