The Murfreesboro Noon Exchange Club had a chili cookoff Wednesday night at the Sportsmans Club on the banks of the Stones River at Medical Center Parkway. President JoAnn Skidmore said the proceeds from the event would help get housing for homeless veterans.

The New Hope Baptist Church in the Big Springs community brought several persons from their congregation to enjoy the chili and also sponsored one of the houses. Church Pastor David Clark told NewsRadio WGNS . . .

There was competition by local firefighters about who could make the best chili. Byran Lowe took first place and won the Titan's tickets. Andy Smithson received second place honors and received luxury accommodations at the DoubleTree by Hilton. Ashley McDonald received honorable mention.
