A Murfreesboro man recently filed a police report for his wheel chair being stolen from his own porch. The report indicates the chair was plugged in on the man’s porch and charging when it was stolen. Now, the 56-year old man has no way to get around. George Allen is disabled and his Jazzy Power Chair was his transportation. Allen is now forced to use his non motorized wheel chair to get around. The Murfreesboro Housing Authority has come to the man’s rescue and installed railings along his wheel chair ramp to help him get in and out of his house with his manual wheel chair. Of course, railings are not as easy to navigate as a motorized wheelchair. Allen suffers from a spinal disorder that makes it hard for him to move around. Allen has had two neck surgeries in recent years and last month they surgically installed eight screws into his back and a disk. That being said, Allen needs his motorized wheelchair back. The chair cost him about $3,500 and it was paid for by TennCare. It’s not known when or if Allen will get the funds to get another chair.
