Healing Field: Flags of Remembrance at The Grove

Although time has changed what some people feel the Memorial Day is about, it is a federal holiday to honor American soldiers who have made the supreme sacrifice. The Murfreesboro Noon Exchange Club's Healing Field: Flags of Remembrance is going on until dusk on Monday, Memorial Day.

Its roots go back to post Civil War times. In 1868 the purpose was to decorate the graves of soldiers who fought in the War Between The States. Even then it honored the military who gave their lives.

This is the ninth year that the Murfreesboro Noon Exchange Club has given The Healing Field to our community. The three-day event goes through the Memorial Day weekend and concludes Monday evening, Memorial Day.

This year The Healing Field is at The Grove At Williamson Place, and John L. Batey's farm background makes the event even more meaningful. In fact, the field was once overrun with soldiers, often brother against brother, upholding their beliefs in the Civil War.

A moving display is the long list of Tennessee soldiers who have made the supreme sacrifice since 9/11, now known as Patriot's Day.

The Boy Scouts of America are a part of this Exchange Club event. They are properly disposing of Old Glory.

There is no admission charged, and it is moving to walk among 800 American flags on 8-foot tall staffs, row or row.

The Grove at Williamson Place is at 3250 Wilkinson Pike. That entrance is behind the Chamber of Commerce. The entrance road is also parallel to Medical Center Parkway, across from The Avenue as well as Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center. Don't miss The Healing Field: Flags of Remembrance.
