Trout fishing may become a New Year hobby for you in 2018! The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency began releasing approximately 90,000 rainbow trout into Tennessee waters in December and will continue through March.

On December 8th, trout were released into the Stones River at Nice's Mill in Smyrna. Another Nice's Mill release will take place on January 12th. On that same day, the TWRA will make a release in Shelbyville on the Duck River.

The state reports a Murfreesboro trout release will happen on January 26th in the West Fork of the Stones River. As we move towards February, a third trout release is planned for Nice's Mill in Smyrna on February 2nd followed by a 4th release at Nice's Mill on March 2nd.

The program provides numerous close-to-home trout fishing opportunities for anglers during the winter months. These fisheries also provide a great opportunity to introduce children or first-time anglers to fishing.

The trout average about 10 inches in length. The daily creel limit is seven, but there is no size limit. Anglers are reminded that a trout license is needed in addition to a fishing license.

Please note that the dates and locations are subject to change. Updates can be found on TWRA's website by clicking here.
