The local non-profit organization that promotes literacy has selected Scott Walker to serve as its president for the next fiscal year.
Walker commented, "It's exciting to see a new world of opportunities open to adults who learn how to read. They suddenly are able to read bedtime stories to their children, study the Bible, and even use a phonebook to look-up numbers. Activities we take for granted, creates confidence and opens opportunities never envisioned by these new readers."
Walker is vice president and manager of WGNS Talk Radio and has served on the Read To Succeed board, helped with the group's popular Spelling Bee and numerous other projects.
Read To Succeed is the community partnership created to promote literacy in Rutherford County. The objective of this collaboration between schools, area agencies and businesses is to raise awareness of literacy issues and create a way for adults to learn how to read with a one-on-one method of teaching. It is supported by business, foundations, grants and in-kind donations.
