Room at the Inn Struggles in Down Economy

The Room at the Inn Director Christine Huddleston says that contributions have fallen in this less than stellar economy. The Room at the Inn is a homeless shelter that operates on West Main Street in Murfreesboro. Huddleston told WGNS that their utility costs have more than doubled since they opened 26-years ago and donations from local churches have declined by more than $1,000 monthly. Huddleston says that despite the lack of finances, the program still manages to find a way to provide approximately 70 meals daily to Inn visitors. Every night the Room at the Inn provides a warm meal to homeless persons living in Murfreesboro and a hot breakfast the following morning. The Inn also prepares a sack lunch for homeless persons to take to their day jobs when they leave the Inn.  The Inn serves a total of 24-people each night and Huddleston told us that they will continue to help needy persons in our community with or without funding challenges. She was very grateful to the City of Murfreesboro for them allowing the program to use the building on West Main Street, across from the old train depot.

Christine Huddleston will be on the WGNS Action Line on December 23rd (8:10-9:00AM) to give an update to their delima and hopefully get suggestions from the public.
