Why Media Only Uses Catchy Names in Political News Today?

In the old days you would hear ad campaigns that stated, "I like Ike" or "All the way with JFK." However, the media would always call the political candidates by their actual name and not a derivative of it in news articles or news programs. Today, that is not the case and you often hear the media focus on only a last or first name in politics WHEN it comes to news.
