Jared Barrett announced today his campaign to become the next member of the Murfreesboro School Board. “I want to help continue to make Murfreesboro schools the best they can be, where our children can receive a quality education and our teachers are listened to and taken care of,” Barrett said as his motivation for seeking a position on the school board. Barrett also added, “I want to be the voice for teachers and parents on the school board.” “With a growing population in Murfreesboro, we must stand ready and plan ahead for future growth,” Barrett said, noting the proposed new elementary school in western Murfreesboro as a first step.

With a background managing local, state, and federal projects as an archaeologist for a cultural resource management firm in Nashville, Jared knows what it takes to work within a budget to get the job done. Barrett is married to his wife Amber and they have lived here for over nine years with their dog Nathan. As a product of public schools, a mother who has taught for over 20 years, and as a former substitute teacher in grades K-12, Barrett knows the advantages a quality public education can on the community.

Barrett currently serves on the Rutherford County Board of Zoning Appeals and the Tennessee Council for Professional Archaeology. He is a lay minister with the Community of Christ and serves as chair of his church’s’ Building and Maintenance Committee. “I ask for your vote April 17th and I look forward to listening to the issues and concerns our teachers and parents have when it comes to Murfreesboro Schools,” Barrett said.

A meet and greet has been planned for February 23rd from 5-8 PM at the Blackman Community Club located on 4310 Manson Pike in Murfreesboro.
