Truck Hauling Onions Overturns on I-24

An all day traffic snarl on I-24 in LaVergne is the result of a tractor trailer crash. The semi-truck that overturned was hauling onions and the vegetables ended up all over the westbound lane of the interstate at the Waldron Road exit (mile marker 64). The accident occurred just before 11:30 Wednesday morning. The good news is that no one was injured in the onion mishap. The bad news is that crews estimated the debris won’t be cleared until 7:00 this evening (4/11/2012).

Now, The Rest of the Story...

Trooper Brian Carmouche investigated the crash and reports that two big rigs were traveling west on I-24 in the slow lane. A third vehicle suddenly slowed in front of a 1996 Kennworth hauling a load of potatos. It was rear-ended by a 2000 Freghtliner rig with onions. That 18-wheeler turned on its side and the onions were strewn across the interstate. 

The trooper notes that both drivers were wearing safety belts and neither were injured. 33-year old Lacanpa Duhart of Macon, Georgia was driving the Freightliner. 37-year old Jose Perez Garcia of Hialeah, Florida was at the wheel of the Kennworth.
