VIDEO: Face Masks Required in County Schools; Reopening Plan Reviewed July 28

The Rutherford County School Board voted to require face masks for all students, employees and visitors when school resumes.

The board held a meeting Tuesday night and voted unanimously. On buses, students must wear masks and drivers a mask or shield when they can't socially distance from students.

The school board also decided to review the COVID-19 reopening plan at a special called July 28th meeting. There, they plan to re-examine the plan based on the latest data concerning the spread of coronavirus in Rutherford County. They could decide to delay the start of in person classes or even begin the year with distance learning.

Dr. Chris Ingraham, a local primary care physician and father of two teenage sons in the county system, spoke to the board before the vote:
