Landfill Life is Short in Rutherford County - What's Next for Our TRASH?

Aug 26, 2020 at 12:02 pm by WGNS

The Middle Point Landfill in Walter Hill has a life expectancy of less than 9 years, as heard in previous newscast. Rutherford County Mayor Bill Ketron is looking at new ideas on what to do with trash generated by local residents in the near future.

The county is taking in ideas from businesses around the world to help with this process. Ketron said that this could mean a new company locating in our community specifically for the purpose of recycling and signing a 40 deal…

The county owns property that could be used as a recycling plant in the area of Florence Road. The property would be ideal, due to its close proximity to gas lines, rail lines and the interstate.

Rutherford County has asked for ideas from companies on what could be done with landfill targeted trash and the next step will be asking for proposals from companies.
