(MURFREESBORO)  Using plenty of caution, face masks, hand sanitizing and social distancing, the 52nd Annual Tennessee Fire Chiefs' Annual Conference began Saturday and continues through Tuesday at the Embassy Suites Hotel & Conference Center in Murfreesboro.

The intensive training and meetings began Saturday (10/10/2020) with the State Fire Marshal's Office presenting a "Community Risk Reduction Workshop". That session of training included customized community risk assessments for each department, including demographic information, incident reporting data, and housing stock information. Each attendee should have a data-driven risk reduction plan for combating their jurisdiction’s unique challenges.

Sunday (10/11/2020) included vendor exhibits along with an afternoon seminar dealing with "Decision Making". That included attendees being immersed in highly interactive, ethical and moral discussion, and fast pace tactical decision making challenges with a learning element from court cases or actual fire scenes to see if the recommendations would have had a favorable outcome.

The ultimate desire is to better align all ranks, working together to take ownership in the direction and decisions made on emergency scenes and nonemergency both at the fire station and off duty.

The remaining days includes continuing education programs dealing with mutual aid, arson investigations, overview sessions on The Barry Brady Act and CARES Act. Sessions will also focus on "Pitfalls of Social Media" and "Legal Responsibilities".

The Barry Brady Act provides compensation to firefighters who contract certain types of cancers. The CARES Act deals with COVID-19 special funding and the importance of using the funds properly.

Again, WGNS welcomes everyone to Murfreesboro for the 52nd Annual Tennessee Fire Chiefs' Annual Conference. We hope that you enjoy your stay, and that you'll come back and visit often.
