MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Murfreesboro City Council will meet in a special workshop meeting at 11:30 on Wednesday morning (Feb. 10, 2021) at the Municipal Airport Business Center (1930 Memorial Blvd.). The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss issues with staff.
Looking back to 2020, a hiring freeze was implanted throughout City of Murfreesboro office from March 19th through October. As a result, Salaries & Benefits were trending under budget due to unfilled vacancies within the City through December.
At the end of the year, there were 70 vacancies in Murfreesboro offices. Furthermore, Police had 36 open positions at the end of December, including 25 sworn officer positions and 8 emergency communications staff. Fire had 14 open positions as compared to 11 vacancies in November.
City officials will be addressing some of the job concerns on Wednesday.
