MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — As MTSU’s Monday, Feb. 15, Transfer Promise Scholarship deadline looms, the university’s recruiting team is enjoying a successful “Discover True Blue: Transfer Scholarship” virtual tour with Tennessee’s community college students.

With COVID-19 preventing in-person MTSU Promise Tour events at community colleges across the state this year, MTSU’s transfer recruiting team utilized Zoom sessions to reach hundreds of potential students in East, Southeast, Middle and West Tennessee Feb. 2-4, emphasizing the deadline.

MTSU offers a guaranteed $3,000 a year Transfer Promise Scholarship for up to two years for transfer students with a 3.0 or higher GPA and at least 60 credit hours earned by August.

“I want potential transfer students to know it’s not too late to apply, be admitted and become scholarship eligible for the fall 2021 semester,” said Mark Murphy, assistant director of transfer admissions.

Murphy, who said the virtual sessions reached at least 130 students, said no separate application is required for the Transfer Promise Scholarship.

“If a student meets the requirements for that scholarship, it will automatically be applied to their account,” Murphy said, adding even more promising financial aid news.

“That is not where our transfer scholarship opportunities end,” he said. “There are hundreds of other scholarships incoming transfer students may qualify for. Admitted transfer students can complete the general application for Foundation and departmental scholarships by Feb. 15 to apply for more than 700 additional scholarship opportunities.”

Murphy emphasizes that to be eligible for the guaranteed scholarship transfer students must be apply by Feb. 15 and they must be admitted before they can apply for the additional scholarships.
