Saving Lives: Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Installs Free Smoke Detectors

Apr 05, 2021 at 09:25 am by WGNS

While we maybe getting into a time of year where typically, home fires decrease – Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Chief Mark Foulks said that fires still happen and residents should not let their guard down. Foulks said that one of the best tools in fighting fires is a smoke detector…

Smoke alarms are installed for free, thanks to Murfreesboro’s involvement in the “Get Alarm Tennessee” program through the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Foulks confirmed that they will install a smoke detector in every bedroom at no charge.

Sadly, a story that WGNS aired in January highlighted what can happen when smoke detectors are not installed or not working. 33-Year old Kendra LaNae Malone and her 5-year-old son Kamden Joseph Hayes, died in the duplex fire on January 30, 2021 on Craig Court.
