Planning to hit the Stones River?

As temperatures warm, more residents may hit the Stones River to canoe, kayak or innertube the waterway.

Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Chief Mark Foulks said that it is important to use caution when floating the river and not to kayak or canoe after hard rainfalls...

While higher water levels may look appealing, flooded waterways can be deadly.

According to SnoFlo data, the West Fork of the Stones River is currently 23% above average for streamflow levels.

Local residents can rent canoes, paddle boards, kayaks and more from the MTSU Recreation Department. You don’t have to be a student or work at the university to enjoy their outdoor gear.

Non-students can rent a canoe for the entire weekend for $38. If you are a student or work at MTSU, the cost is only $30. Stand-up paddle boards are $30 for the weekend (MTSU students and faculty only pay $25).
