(MONTEAGLE, TN)  A middle Tennessee landmark is just a memory, as Jim Oliver's Smokehouse Restaurant and Trading Post burned to the ground Tuesday (4/27/2021). The motel and cabins were saved.

Monteagle Mayor Marilyn Rodman said that over 25 area fire departments responded to the massive blaze. She notes that everyone was evacuated and that there were no injuries.

For those who have visited the motels, restaurant and store--you recall that it was packed with memorabilia that covered several decades. That is now just a memory--along with the fudge candy and delicious meals.

Reports indicate that Jim Oliver built the all wood structure almost a half-century ago and it became "one of the most famous restaurants on the Dixie Highway". Statistics from the landmark's website shows that more than 20-million persons visited the eatery, live music venue, motel and general attraction.

The cause of the Tuesday fire is under investigation.
