RECAP: Rutherford County, TN Jobless Rate Remains Low

Recapping one of the more positive stories this month, the unemployment figures seem to be looking good locally. With more, here's WGNS' Scott Walker...



Current numbers show that about 2,370 residents in Rutherford County received unemployment checks this past week that were directly tied to job loss believed to be caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Williamson and Moore Counties had the lowest unemployment numbers in April (2021), both tying at 2.8%.

Verbatim of the soundbyte above: The latest unemployment numbers show that Rutherford County had an unemployment rate of 3.7% in April of this year (2021), the most recent month for Tennessee to release statistics. That number is down 'point 4' (0.4) points compared to the previous count in March, which equaled a 4.1% jobless rate for Rutherford County.

To get a better picture of how much our economy is improving, we went back to April of 2020, which is when the job market was hit hardest by the COVID-19 Pandemic. The jobless rate in April of last year rang in at 17.1% for Rutherford County. That number is 13.4 points higher than this April's unemployment rate of only 3.7% in Rutherford County, TN.
