(MURFREESBORO) Shortly after 4:00 o'clock Thursday afternoon (6/3/2021) a fatal crash occurred in the westbound lane of I-24 (toward Nashville), between South Church Street and the New Salem Highway.

A 2017 Peterbilt tractor-trailer rig driven by 50 year old Brian Barcorft of Bush Creek, Tennessee ran off the side of the interstate, striking an overhead sign and utility pole. The sign hung over the interstate and it fell into the roadway.

It reportedly fell in front of another tractor trailer rig that was driven by 57-year-old Eric Kinman-Wygal of Jackson, Tennessee. He hit the sign, lost control of his vehicle, overturned and slid off the westbound side of I-24.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Lt. Charlie Caplinger told NewsRadio WGNS, "Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. Eric Kinman-Wygal was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the other driver was uninjured."

Eric Kinman-Wygal of Jackson was pronounced deceased at the scene.
