New Court Program in Rutherford County Aims to Help Families Stay Together / Reduce Trauma

Sarah Murfree with the Prevention Coalition for Success said that illegal drug use is a large problem in Rutherford County, but another problem involves the stigma that comes with addiction.

Substance use disorder or drug addiction is a disease that affects a person's brain and behavior and leads to an inability to control the use of a legal or illegal drug. Substances such as alcohol, marijuana and nicotine are also considered drugs.

A new program funded by The National Center for State Courts has placed the Rutherford County Courtroom in the spotlight as they participate in a new pilot program to fight substance abuse and keep families together...



The Family Preservation Initiative is a program that is aimed at ending the cycles of system involvement that often affect multiple generations and to catch problems before plunging a child or family into  much larger crisis.

The program will work to help fight addiction, help find treatment and most of all - reduce trauma throughout the process while working to keep families together.
