Murfreesboro — The Child Advocacy Center is excited to announce a new addition to its staff. Carrie Norvell has joined the CAC as the new Community Education Coordinator. Norvell brings a wealth of experience working with non-profit agencies.

Carrie Norvell served the 9 counties of the Pennyrile Area Development District in Kentucky as the community educator at Sanctuary – the local domestic violence, sexual assault, and rape crisis center.  She volunteered her time hosting fundraising events for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Middle Tennessee.

Child Advocacy Center director Sharon De Boer stated, “We are excited to have Carrie join our team and we are looking forward to great things from her.”

Norvell’s home is Hopkinsville, Kentucky.  She attended Murray State University where she majored in Organizational Communication.  She and her husband recently moved to Murfreesboro.

The Child Advocacy Center is a non-profit agency that works as a Child Protective Investigative Team with Department of Children’s Services, law enforcement, and the District Attorney’s Office to respond to child abuse cases, aggressively prosecute offenders, and help child victims and their families heal from the trauma

Norvell recently attended the Darkness to Light child sexual abuse prevention training where she learned to train adults how to protect their children using their training curriculum.

After attending the training, Norvell stated, “Child sexual abuse is an epidemic in our community.  The Child Advocacy Center interviewers conduct forensic interviews with 3-5 new child victims daily.  Parents, grandparents, and professionals can learn the signs and symptoms of child sexual abuse through the Darkness to Light training.  When they report the abuse, this activates the Child Protective Investigative Team to help their child.  This stops the sexual abuse and helps their child begin to heal from the trauma.”

If you are interested in bringing the Darkness to Light training to your church, school, business, non-profit agency or civic group, contact Carrie Norvell at (615) 867-9000 or cnorvell@cacrutherford.org.
