State Senators Dawn White and Shane Reeves and Representatives Bryan Terry, Tim Rudd, Charlie Baum and Mike Sparks announced Thursday that two Multimodal Access Grants totaling a combined $1.65 million have been awarded in Rutherford County from the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT).
One grant for $703,605 was awarded to Murfreesboro for sidewalks and crosswalk improvements on SR-1 from Middle Tennessee Blvd. to Apollo Drive. The other grant for Smyrna totals $950,000 to make sidewalk and crosswalk improvements to SR-1 from Enon Springs Road to Sam Davis Road.
“These are very sizable grants and we were very pleased to support them,” said the lawmakers in a joint statement, “We appreciate TDOT for recognizing the local need and congratulate our local officials who helped secure successful grant applications.”
TDOT’s Multimodal Access Grant is a state-funded program created to support the transportation needs of pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit users through infrastructure projects that address existing gaps along state routes. Multimodal Access Grant projects are state-funded at 95 percent with a 5 percent local match.
