Rutherford County Littering Fine Increase Remains on HOLD
You may recall this past February, the county attempted to raise littering fines to $500 for the first offense and $1,000 on the second offense. But, the increase did not go as planned.
Upon further legal review, Rutherford County officials learned they would have to request a statewide amendment to the Tennessee Code labeled, “Offense of mitigated criminal littering,” which is Tenn. Code Ann. § 39-14-503. Ketron hopes to increase the littering fines by next year.
