City of Murfreesboro wants to use / oversee former GE Property that was purchased to be under the National Parks Stones River Battlefield

What was once General Electric owned property and used by GE as a manufacturing plant for close to 50-years, was purchased by O'Reilly's Auto Parts to be used as a distribution center. But, shortly after O’Reilly’s purchased the land at 2150 Northwest Broad Street, they sold it.

O’Reilly’s sold the land after being approached by “Friends of the Stones River Battlefield.” The organization pressed the auto parts store to hold off on the construction of a warehouse, because they wanted to see the land preserved as part of the National Parks Stones River Battlefield.

Through a real-estate transaction, the American Battlefield Trust purchased the 42-acre site from O’Reilly’s at the start of 2021 with the idea of the land going to the National Parks as part of the Stones River Battlefield.

Now, the City of Murfreesboro is in negotiations with the Battlefield and the American Battlefield Trust for the Parks and Recreation Department to possibly oversee and use the 42-acres site, according to Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland…

Regardless of what happens next, the site is expected to be park land, despite who oversees the property in the future.
