(SMYRNA, TN)  Special agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have arrested and charged a Smyrna man in connection to the death of a deputy from the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office.

At the request of 19th District Attorney General Robert Nash, TBI agents began investigating the death of 22-year-old Savanna Puckett on Sunday evening (1/23/2022). The investigation was initiated after Deputy Puckett’s colleagues found her deceased with a gunshot wound. Her body was located after reports of a fire came in to emergency workers in Springfield, TN. Evidently, the fire was at the deputies home.

During the investigation, TBI agents developed information leading them to 27-year-old James Jackson Conn, an acquaintance of Deputy Puckett. The Smyrna man was beleived to be responsible for her death and the fire at her home, according to the TBI.

Early Monday morning (1/24/2022), TBI agents, Rutherford County Sheriff Deputies, Murfreesboro and Smyrna Police officers arrived at Conn’s home on Odom Court in Smyrna and executed a search warrant, which led to a standoff that lasted for several hours.

Later Monday morning, smoke bombs were sent through several windows of the residence where Conn was refusing to come out on police demands. SWAT officers from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office entered the home after it filled with smoke and quickly arrested Conn without further incident.

TBI agents have obtained warrants, charging Conn with one count of First-Degree Murder and one count of Aggravated Arson.

On Monday evening (1/24/2022), James Jackson Conn was booked into the Robertson County Jail, where, at the time of this release, he was being held without bond.

Again, the Smyrna, TN resident is accused of going to Deputy Puckett's home on Highway 41 North in Springfield, TN and killing her.
